Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appointed Deputy Central Bank Governor Emrah Şener for another four year-term after his tenure expired on Wednesday. Erdoğan’s office published the decision in the government’s Official Gazette. Şener, a former employee of Citigroup, Bank of America, and HSBC, was hired as deputy governor in September 2016 for five years. But Erdoğan reduced the term in office of senior central bank officials to four years in 2018, when he was re-elected with enhanced presidential powers. Erdoğan also awarded himself the power to hire and fire the officials.
